Description
Since 2012, The Paros Foundation has worked to improve the quality of life in Nerkin Karmir Aghbyur (NKA), an important border village of approximately 1,100 residents in Armenia’s Tavush Region. Through our Prosperity on the Border initiative, the Foundation has helped rebuild or improve the village’s school, kindergarten, medical center, emergency services building, municipal building and water distribution system. With the support of Jean-Marie Atamian, his family and friends, partial or complete renovations have also been completed on nearly 10% of the village’s homes.
Levon lives in NKA with his wife, father and three children. Levon, his wife and his father all work as teachers at the NKA school, which their three children also attend. While the home already has a heating system and renovated bathroom, the remaining interior requires a complete renovation. This $39,000 project will renovate the interior rooms, replace the electrical and plumbing systems and expand one of the larger bedrooms to create an additional room for the children.
Sponsorship of this project will provide the materials, skilled labor and technical support needed to complete the family’s home renovations. By creating safe and comfortable living conditions, this project will help the family build a more secure future while supporting the continued strength and stability of this important border village.

The Need
The family’s current home does not provide enough suitable living space for six family members. The interior rooms, electrical system and plumbing need to be renovated, and the home needs to be expanded to create an additional room for the children. These improvements will provide the family with a safer, more functional home that better meets their needs.
Short Term Impact
The renovation will provide the family with updated living spaces, safer electrical and plumbing systems and an additional room for the children. The improvements will also create short-term employment for local tradespeople and skilled workers, keeping a portion of the project’s investment within the area.
Long Term Impact
These improvements will protect the home from further deterioration and provide Levon’s family with greater comfort and stability for years to come. Supporting a family whose members teach and study at the village school also helps strengthen NKA and supports the continued vitality of this important border village.
