Description
Since 2012, The Paros Foundation has worked to improve the quality of life in Nerkin Karmir Aghbyur (NKA), an important border village of approximately 1,100 residents in Armenia’s Tavush Region. Through our Prosperity on the Border initiative, the Foundation has helped rebuild or improve the village’s school, kindergarten, medical center, emergency services building, municipal building and water distribution system. With the support of Jean-Marie Atamian, his family and friends, partial or complete renovations have also been completed on nearly 10% of the village’s homes. This continued investment helped make NKA one of the communities selected by The Paros Foundation to welcome families displaced from Artsakh.
Ara and his family live in NKA. He serves as a contract soldier, while his wife works for the village administration. Their home received partial improvements in 2019, including a new roof, renovated bathroom and updates to the living room. However, much of the interior remains unfinished, and the home does not have a proper heating system. This $21,500 project will include a full remodel of the interior spaces and install a new heating system, rounding out the work that was previously done on their home.
Sponsorship of this project will provide the materials, skilled labor and technical support needed to complete the family’s home renovations. By creating safe and comfortable living conditions, this project will help the family build a more secure future while supporting the continued strength and stability of this important border village.

The Need
Although portions of the family’s home have already been improved, the remaining interior spaces require a complete renovation. The home also needs a reliable heating system to provide consistent warmth throughout the house. Completing this final phase will build upon the previous improvements and provide the family with a fully renovated and comfortable home.
Short Term Impact
Once the renovations are completed, the family will have updated interior living spaces and a reliable heating system throughout the home. These improvements will also create short-term employment for local tradespeople and skilled workers, keeping a portion of the project’s investment within the area.
Long Term Impact
These improvements will complete the home’s renovation, protect the family’s previous investment and provide safer, warmer and more comfortable living conditions for years to come. Helping families remain in NKA also supports the continued strength and vitality of this important border village.
