The city of Vanadzor sustained substantial damage in the 1988 Spitak Earthquake. The Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts escaped substantial damage and the Museum worked to not only preserve its rich collection of more than 1,700 works of art, but increase its holdings. The Museum regularly opens new exhibits for its local population and visitors alike.

The building has many needs including new windows, lighting and exhibit stands. The staff maintains its collection and the building to the best of its means. A new Museum Gift Shop was opened in 2009 to help support local artists and provide the Museum with a small source of revenue to help address some of its needs.

The first floor of the Museum hosts its sculpture gallery featuring graphics and sculptures of both Armenian and international artists. Renovating this floor will launch the Museum's effort to bring the entire Museum into acceptable conditions.

The current physical condition of the Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts is in need of renovation. Each floor has a different set of needs and the entire museum is in need of new exterior windows. To begin this process of renovation, $25,000 is needed to install new lighting, paint and install new statue stands in the sculpture gallery.

The sculpture gallery at the Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts will be immediately renovated and attract more visitors to the Museum. This increased attendance will bring additional financial resources to the Museum through admission and sales in the gift shop. There will be a boost to the local economy as renovation materials will be purchased locally whenever possible.

As the number of visitors increase and people view the rich collection of art on display, the Museum will increase its ability to attract a larger number of donations which are necessary to renovate the remaining floors of the Museum. This project will also contribute to the promotion of the Armenian culture by creating a space that visitors will come to view and learn about noted works of art.
