Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts Standing Tall
END DATE Two months after start date
The city of Vanadzor sustained substantial damage in the 1988 Spitak Earthquake. The Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts escaped substantial damage and the Museum worked to not only preserve its rich collection of more than 1,700 works of art, but increase its holdings. The Museum regularly opens new exhibits for its local population and visitors alike.
The building has many needs including new windows, lighting and exhibit stands. The staff maintains its collection and the building to the best of its means. A new Museum Gift Shop was opened in 2009 to help support local artists and provide the Museum with a small source of revenue to help address some of its needs.
The first floor of the Museum hosts its sculpture gallery featuring graphics and sculptures of both Armenian and international artists. Renovating this floor will launch the Museum's effort to bring the entire Museum into acceptable conditions.
