DESCRIPTION

Repat Armenia Foundation (RAF) is actively engaged with both the 'demand' side of recruiting (repats and potential repats looking for jobs in Armenia), and the 'supply' side (available positions and hiring managers). In 2013, Repat Armenia launched 'Armenia Works for You' in conjunction with Luys Foundation and to date has assisted in the successful hiring of over 150 candidates in Armenia. In addition to identifying positions and candidates, RAF is actively involved in speeding up and improving the matchmaking process.

Our experience has shown that 85% of people applying to RAF are actively seeking employment opportunities. As mentioned above, RAF's employment assistance to date has assisted 150 individuals, both directly and indirectly, in finding employment in Armenia. Those who apply for assistance are given the opportunity to network with professionals in a similar field, to get a good understanding of the working environment in Armenia; they are coached on how to develop their CVs and portfolios to standards in Armenia through workshops with HR agencies and other professionals in Armenia. Candidates seeking positions as part of repatriation are provided with a solid link to Armenia while still located in their country of current residence. RAF organizes Skype interviews with potential employers for skilled professionals who are looking to move to Armenia. By supporting repatriates in finding employment we are assisting both the potential employer and employee and ultimately benefiting the development of a modern working culture in Armenia. RAF is also organizing professional repatriation forums in a number of communities with a special focus on sectors where there is significant demand for specialists (e.g. Armenian IT sector). RAF is coordinating the participation of local IT companies in these events – for many such companies, this is the first time they are actively recruiting outside of Armenia. Furthermore, RAF follows up with all employed repatriates regularly to ensure that they have had a smooth integration. Sponsoring this project will help allow RAF to continue and develop the important work they do.

THE NEED

Finding meaningful employment is a critical aspect of professional repatriation to Armenia. Many professionals want to move to Armenia, but do not because of lack of information, misinformation and a negative narrative about the country. They are in need of solid advice about the work environment in Armenia and assistance in finding and securing employment in Armenia, whether through contacts, CV writing, interview technique or any other means. Similarly, many local organizations are looking for highly skilled candidates but are struggling to find any who are based in Armenia, or who would consider moving to Armenia to accept a position.

SHORT TERM IMPACT

In the short term there will be a growth in successful placement rate from 30% currently to 50% by the end of 2015. Additionally there will be further growth in the network of contacts among Armenian and international organizations looking for qualified staff to be based in Armenia.

LONG TERM IMPACT

In the long term, there will be a greater impact on society, businesses and start-ups that will create jobs and change working environments when repatriates bring their own experience from across the world. In addition, the mentality of a move to Armenia changes from pure volunteerism or aid work to establishing fulfilling professional careers. Over time, a virtuous circle of demand for experienced repatriates driving up wages for equally qualified and experienced working staff will develop.
